Transition from social based user to web based user in Myanmar internet

Top ten 10 Facebook pages in Myanmar for March 2015

My friend keep on asking me how they gonna make people who are fan of their Facebook page, visit their website. It's been a big challenge for Myanmar internet businesses. The condition is Myanmar internet users are thinking they are using internet just by using Facebook. I've been writing a lot regarding with this issue. It will never be getting old talking about it again and again. We have three things to consider.



Internet connection

That's the first issue when thinking to make a transition from social based user to web based users. How gonna you drive your fan on Facebook to get onto your websites. In Myanmar, we are now using mobile data service of MPT, Ooredoo and Telenor. Seem they are getting faster than before. But still we cannot expect that would become a stable connection. We are stay facing the issue that people are afraid of clicking links they found on social media. Because they will have to wait about 1 minute to see the web page. Mobile browsers cannot still help users to get content faster. It's not about the problem of browsers, but the problem of internet connection which cannot bring mobile content or mobile websites smoothly to mobile phone users.


Mobile version websites 

Only few internet businesses are making mobile version websites in Myanmar. But some does it in really cool way. They use Mobile responsive templates. But some people just buy the website templates which support desktop and mobile browsers. But are they still enough? We still have questions a lot here.


The age of Mobile App

Myanmar people love to consume content from mobile applications. They use Facebook, Viber, Candy Crush. and now what the trending one is COC. They really like to get content from mobile app. If they just consume the content from mobile app and don't visit your website no more, how you gonna do? It depends on your business model. Facebook have mobile version website, but they strongly suggest people to download Mobile App that you can see on the log in page in mobile phone. Their business model is selling sponsored posts in social feeds. But when talking about your business, how you gonna monetize? But one thing you must never forget is at least having a mobile version website. However Facebook suggest mobile user to download app, they still have mobile version website and tablet version websites.


User Experience 

I've been listening talk from editor in charge of Popular Science Magazine in Yangon, Myanmar. He talked how user experience is important for a digital business. However internet connection is bad and if you can create something that focus on user experience, you will get audiences. What you gonna put in your mobile app? What you gonna have in mobile version websites? What you gonna do great jobs in desktop version website? It's not all about mobile. You're still having 50 percent of desktop audience. Many users are still on desktop and will be forever. Your problem is taking people out off social media into website because you are gonna monetize on your website. You're not making any money on social media if I'm not wrong. But I don't know if you gonna do something such a big awareness campaign depending on your fan on Social Media.


Whatever you're thinking about transition between social media and web users, you need to definitely know what your purpose is. And then you have to persuade them to get into your platform if you really want them to visit your website. What major companies in other countries does are just putting links on social media. They never share all content on social media. They just put the links and drive users to click those links. I believe you may be able to drive users by using that technique. You gonna worry about you won't get much fan. Don't worry. If they have nothing to consume on Social media, they will just come into your website. You gonna worry if your competitors are making great on their Facebook pages with full content. But they are not getting money by sharing all of their content on social media. Facebook themselves get more money because of that big volume of users.
